Audiometric assessment
The audiometric examination, which is an essential part of the otoneurological vertigo examination, tests for unilateral or bilateral hearing loss in low, medium and high frequencies. It will help to diagnose conditions involving the secretion of fluids in the inner ear (inner ear pressure) or a condition involving the eighth nerve (neuroma or meningioma of the cerebellopontine angle). The patient will also be tested for conductive hearing loss which would indicate a condition involving the middle ear.
